A Case in Point: Amazing Case Studies

Abstract:
Actual patient scenarios will be analyzed to discover learning points for nurses.  Select from:

  • Presentation 1:  Hyperkalemia, Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Acute Coronary Syndrome – Code Stemi with 12 lead ECG analysis, Hyperthyroidism, HHNK, and ABGs.
  • Presentation 2: Hyper and Hypokalemia, and Complicated Trauma with multiple organ dysfunction (ARDs and Renal Failure).
  • Presentation 3: Complicated Trauma with abdominal compartment syndrome, ARDS, & DIC; ABG and electrolyte analysis included.
  • Presentation 4: Hyperkalemia, Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Acute Coronary Syndrome – Code Stemi with 12 lead ECG analysis, Complicated Trauma with abdominal compartment syndrome, and ABGs.

Key Content Will Include:
For each case:

  • A review of the pertinent assessment findings, anatomy and physiology, laboratory values, and hemodynamics.
  • A brief review of 12 lead ECG analysis is included in the acute coronary syndrome case study.

The cases will be presented with emphasis on nursing implications and the limitations on which the nurse should focus.  Participants should bring a desire to enhance their evidenced based practice as prerequisite knowledge.

Objectives:
Correlate assessment findings to the physiology of the disease process.
Describe the nursing implications for pertinent assessment findings.

Format and Method of Instruction:
90 minutes expandable to 3 hours
Interactive lecture, case studies and audiovisuals
