Abdominal Compartment Syndrome ... It is not just a surgical problem!

Abstract:
Prevention of abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) has become essential to the successful outcome of critically ill trauma patients. Did you know your medical patients often have undiagnosed ACS? Some facilities utilize innovative tools to prevent and treat ACS to temporarily close the abdomen. This session will focus on the pathophysiology and manifestations of ACS, the latest consensus guidelines for bedside monitoring techniques to assess for ACS, and nursing implications when caring for a patient with ACS and temporary closures. Participants should bring a desire to learn about an innovative treatment tool for the management of abdominal compartment syndrome.
Objectives:  
Discuss physiologic considerations for abdominal compartment syndrome.
Analyze nursing implications for patients with ACS and temporary IV bag closure.

75 to 90 minutes
