Unraveling the Complexity of Oxygenation Principles Julie Miller, RN, BSN, CCRN President: Paws to Learn
Abstract: Determining a patient’s oxygenation demand, consumption, and extraction ratio aids the caregiver in making the right decisions when caring for the critically ill patient. This session will focus on calculating oxygen demand, arterial oxygen content, oxygen consumption, oxygen extraction ratios, and shunts. The clinical ramifications, pathophysiology and interventions for altered oxygenation will be covered. Material will be presented utilizing a case study approach with application of material as it is learned. Participants should bring a desire to learn techniques, which will enhance their ability to intervene and evaluate the care of their patients. Objectives: Calculate DO2, VO2, CaO2, O2ER, and PaO2/FiO2 ratio. Discuss the clinical ramifications of altered oxygenation. Identify interventions to improve oxygenation. Format and Method of Instruction: 75 to 90 minutes, expandable to 3 hours Interactive lecture, case studies and audiovisuals Primary Speaker Information: Julie Miller, RN, BSN, CCRN President: Paws to Learn 7313 CR 2192 Whitehouse TX 75791 C: 903–245–1223 Fax: 903–839–0894 Email: [email protected] © 1999: Paws to Learn
