Abstract: APRV, Bi-Vent, PRVC, PC-IRV, PC/SIMV, VC, PEEP, CPAP, AC, PS, and the list of ventilator modes continues to grow. Keeping up with the mechanics of ventilation can be frustrating. This session will alleviate the confusion of ventilator modes and assist the caregiver to identify the best mode for their patient. Key content will include an explanation of current ventilator strategies, correlation of ventilator strategies and assessment findings, lung compliance evaluation, and clues to successful patient management. Participants should bring a desire to update current ventilator management knowledge with the latest strategies for caring for the ventilator patient. Objectives: Describe modes of ventilation. Correlate patient condition and choosing the best ventilator mode. Discuss assessment and evaluation of ventilated patients.
